My name is Ali. I was born and raised in Babylon, Iraq. I migrated to the United States when I was twenty-three years old after working as an interpreter/ cultural adviser with the U.S military during their mission in Iraq. That job put me in danger. I was in trouble while doing it and after the U.S pulled out of Iraq in 2011. Therefore, I migrated to the U.S to stay safe and chase my dreams. I learned English by watching Hollywood movies, so I always wanted to explore the United States.
Working with the U.S Army allowed me to help Iraqi and American sides that needed help during the war. I’ve been in the U.S for a while, enjoying every day of it despite the challenges. I started working the first month for me in the States and never stopped. Worked in sales, banking, construction, and restaurants. I now work as a Rideshare driver, which I really enjoy because it gives me the freedom and the fresh experiences I long for.
I took two years of college then dropped out because of the costs, plus I didn’t want to work for a corporation which is all that a degree offers, and who needs to pay for college in the time of the internet? I’ve been working as a rideshare driver for the past three years and explored enough to think that I should start writing about what I’m experiencing. Especially since I’m working in Washington DC metropolitan area, and it’s entirely nothing like I imagined.
You can find more details (about me) and read about my experiences here.
